Union volleyball completes opening weekend classic

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Union University volleyball team completed their season opening tournament at the Dr. Margaret Downing Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped all four matches in the classic. They lost Friday, August 24 to host, Southern Arkansas University 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-15), and then Quincy University 3-1 (25-10, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19) in their second match of the day. With the set versus Quincy tied at 1-1, Union led 22-18 in the third set before Quincy rallied. 

Union won the first and fourth sets Saturday, August 25, against Cameron University but lost the match 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 15-9). They lost their second match Saturday to Texas-Permian Basin 3-1 (25-16, 25-11, 18-25, 25-20). 

Meghan Delaney led the team with 39 kills on the week and 49 digs. Abbie Rahn, Alyssa Tatsch and Kristen Bukowsky had 21 kills each on the week. Claressa Kohler had 43 digs and Rahn had 41 digs with four blocks. Bukoswky and Christa Karns led with 15 and 14 blocks respectively. 

Bukowsky was named all-tournament with her 21 kills and 15 blocks for the weekend.
