SEARCY, Ark. - The Union University baseball team lost 4-2 at Harding University Tuesday night. Union dropped to 15-31 overall, while Harding improved to 26-21 on the season.
Harding scored first with a run in the second, then added two more in the third. A 2-run home run from VanDover put Harding up 3-0. Union managed just two hits in the game. The first came in the third when Spencer Schultz led off with a single. Union did not score until the sixth when the Bulldogs scored a run without the use of a hit. A walk to Hayden Lewis to lead off the inning, followed by a hit-by-pitch and a groundout had runners on second and third. Nolen Milton then drove in Union's first run with a sacrifice fly. Harding added a run in the bottom of the eighth to lead 4-1. Union added their second hit in the ninth as Milton doubled and later scored on a groundout by Schultz.
Five pitchers were used by Union in the game with Kory Pollard (1-2) getting the start. He went four innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Sam McMillin, JD Fuzzell, Skyler Harrison, and Scott Shearer all tossed on inning each. Union pitchers allowed 11 hits in the game.
Up next for Union will be the final games of the season, a weekend conference series at Christian Brothers April 28-29 in Memphis.
