Union baseball tops Trevecca 16-4

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team defeated Trevecca Nazerene University 16-4 Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 9-17, while the Trojans dropped to 12-11. 

In the top of the first, Zane Philips doubled down the left field line, driving in Chase Diggs and Charlie Ellis. Philips then scored on an RBI from Hayden Lewis

The bats continued to swing in the top of the second for the Bulldogs. Nolen Milton had a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Tyler Thomas. Spencer Shultz hit a double down the right field line, bringing in another run. Then Lewis and Shultz scored from on a single by Josh Bozoian

Union added one run in the top of the third when Diggs scored on an RBI from Milton. 

In the fourth, Bozoian hit a 2-run home run to right field, bringing in Thibado. 

Trevecca's first run of the game was in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 11-1.

In the top of the sixth, Thomas tripled, driving in Bozoian and Diggs hit a sacrifice fly. The final run for Union came from on an RBI single by Thibado. 

Union was led by Diggs, Ellis, and Bozoian with two hits each. Bozoian led with four RBI, while Lewis had three RBI. Union out hit TNU 12-8 in the game. Skyler Harrison (2-4) earned the win, going five innings with one run on five hits with seven strikeouts. JD Fuzzell and Brady Cook tossed one inning of relief each. 

Up next for Union is a GSC home series against Valdosta State University starting with a double-header Friday, March 23, at 1 p.m.
