Strong second half sends Union men to 90-68 win

JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University men's basketball team defeated Williams Baptist University 90-68 Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 6-3, while Williams Baptist dropped to 4-5.
 
The first half was played close with six ties and five lead changes. Union posted a 10-2 run that put the Bulldogs up by 10 points, its largest lead of the half. The Eagles then went on a 6-0 run to bring them back within four points. To close out the half, Devante Carolina for Williams Baptist made a last second three-point shot from just inside half court to cut Union's lead to one point, 39-38.
 
In the second half, the two teams played close until the 10:14 mark when Union went on a 9-0 run to bring their lead up to 14 points. The Bulldogs largest lead of the game came at the 26 second mark at 90-68. Union outscored Williams Baptist 51-30  in the second half. The final score 90-68.
 
Union scored 34 of their points in the paint, and the Bulldog's bench chipped in 36 points. The Bulldogs had 39 rebounds and forced 13 turnovers. The Eagles had 30 rebounds and forced 13 turnovers.
 
Terrandus Smith led Union with a career high 35 points. Bryson Butler had 13 points, and JC Clausi had 14 points. Tylandrius Parks led in rebounds with 12 rebounds. Union was 54 percent from the field, 48 percent (12-25) from long range, and 63 percent (12-19) from the free throw line.
 
Williams Baptist had five players with double digits, led by Dominque Dyes with 18 points and Andrew Littleton with 13 points. The Eagles were 40 percent from the field, 35 percent (10-28) from three-point range, and 66 percent (2-3) from the foul line.
 
Next up for Union is a Gulf South Conference matchup against Auburn-Montgomery, Thursday, December 13th at 7:30 p.m. at home.
