JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University volleyball team was defeated by Lee University 3-1 (25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 25-14). The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 7-25 overall and 3-12 in Gulf South Conference play. The Lady Flames improved to 17-13 overall and 12-3 in conference play.
In the first set, Lee took an early lead going on a 5-1 run. Union then closed the gap at 6-4. Lee held their lead throughout the set, with their largest at 23-11. The Lady Flames won the set 25-13.
In the second set, the two teams played close throughout the first half. The Lady Flames pulled away with a service ace making the score 19-13. Despite Union's last push, Lee finished 25-19.
The Lady Bulldogs went on a 7-2 run to start the third set. Union maintained their lead throughout the set, and the Lady Bulldogs stayed alive in the match with a 25-14 win.
Union also started the fourth set hot, scoring the first four points. Both teams played close for a while, until Lee went on a 7-2 run making the score 20-12. The score of the final set was 25-14.
Union was led by Meghan Delaney and Delaney Peterson with nine kills, Rebecca Sexton with 23 assists, Abbie Rahn with 22 digs, and Peterson with three blocks.
Next up for Union is senior night against Shorter University on Saturday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m.
