Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Union University women's basketball team posted a 75-60 win over Nova Southeastern University in the South Region Crossover Classic hosted by Barry University, Union, ranked No. 4 in the WBCA Coaches' Poll and No. 2 by the D2SIDA Media poll, improved to 2-0 on the season. Nova Southeastern dropped to 1-1.
For the second straight night, Union used a huge second half to earn victories. The game was tied 30-30 at the half when Nova Southeastern hit a 3-pointer just before the end of the half. The Sharks opened the second half with another 3-pointer to lead 33-30. Union responded and outscored Nova 24-14 in the third quarter. And then extended its lead with a 21-16 advantage in the fourth quarter. Union scored 15 points each in the first and second quarters.
Union led by as many as 22 points in the game in the fourth quarter. Union poured in 42 points in the paint and added 31 points off turnovers. Union forced 20 turnovers in the game and grabbed 25 rebounds. Nova forced 18 Union turnovers and grabbed 34 rebounds.
Friday evening, Union overcame a 14-point third quarter deficit to defeat host Barry 69-62. Also Friday, Nova defeated GSC opponent Delta State 70-62.
Union had four players in double figures in the win over Nova Southeastern led by
Jada Perkins with 19 points, including 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.
Jada Smith added 17 points,
Morgan Martin 12 points, and
Kennedy Childers 11 points. Union shot 46 percent from the field, 40 percent (4-10) from long range, and 73 percent (19-26) from the free throw line.
Nova was led by Hughes with 18 points, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range. The Sharks shot 42 percent from the field, 43 percent from behind the arc, and 85 percent 11-13 from the free throw line.
Up next for Union will be a home game Thursday, November 15 versus Central State University at 5:30 p.m.
