Union volleyball wins second straight conference match against UWG 3-1

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Union University volleyball team defeated the University of West Georgia 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13) Friday night. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 11-6 overall and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference. The University of West Georgia fell to 1-11 on the season and 0-4 in the conference.

In the first set, Union scored the first two points. The Lady Wolves responded with a 4-0 run, giving them the lead. The teams took turns scoring until Union found momentum and won the set 25-13.

In the second set, West Georgia started off strong and gave Union their only loss of the match. The Lady Wolves won the set 22-25.

Union answered the loss with three straight points in the third set. After some back and forth, the Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead with six straight points, finishing the third set 25-18.

West Georgia scored the first and second point of the fourth match, the only time they led in the set. The Lady Bulldogs finished the match, winning the fourth set 25-14.

Katie O'Malley had 20 kills in the game with Christa Karns following with 18. Freshman, Bre Carlton had 55 assists and eight digs. Taylor Chiaro had another big game with 22 digs, her fourth straight match with 20 or more digs.

Up next for Union is another conference road game at the University of Montevallo (Ala.), Saturday, September 30 at 2:00 p.m.
