CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State defeated the Union women's soccer team 3-2 on Friday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the Gulf South Conference. The Lady Statesmen improved to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
Union attacked first with a goal by
Victoria Lucido assisted by
Olivia Schmitke twenty minutes into the game. The Lady Statesmen responded ten minutes later with a goal by Anoucke Baas assisted by Lakyn Cryder.
The play was even going into the half with a score of 1-1. The Lady Bulldogs out shot the Lady Statesman nine to three in the first half.
Delta State took the lead early in the second half when Anoucke Baas scored her second goal of the game.
Then Delta State made the score 3-1 with a goal by Lakyn Cryder in the 73rd minute.
One minute later, the Lady Bulldogs were given a penalty kick, and Union's
Shelby High capitalized on the change, making the score 2-3.
Union out shot Delta State 22 to 8. Union's
Anna Venckus recorded one save, and Delta State's Ana Branch had four.
