CLINTON, Miss.- The Union University women's soccer team was defeated 6-1 by No. 22 Mississippi College on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the Gulf South Conference. The Lady Choctaws improved to 8-1-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
Mississippi College's first goal of the match was off of a free kick by Lauren Kate Carter. Then three minutes later, Lauren Smith finished another goal for the Lady Choctaws.
Mississippi College's Emma Claire Furman added another goal assisted by Lauren Smith. The last goal of the first half for the Lady Choctaws came from Lauren Smith assisted by Madison Moser.
The half time score was 4-0.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Union's Olivia Schmitke scored the Lady Bulldogs only goal for the match.
Madison Moser extended the Lady Choctaws lead in the 65th minute with an assist from Lauren Kate Carter. The final goal of the match was scored by Katie Taylor, assisted by Madison Moser.
The Lady Choctaws out shot the Lady Bulldogs 24-5. Union's Anna Venckus collected eight saves, and Mississippi College's Andrea McDonald had three.
Up next for Union is a home game against the University of Montevallo on Friday, October 6, at 5 p.m.
