JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team fell to the West Georgia Wolves in a Saturday double-header in Union's season finale. Union will end the season 24-29 overall and 8-25 in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia improved to 29-23 on the season with a league record of 17-16.
Union scored first in the bottom of the second on
Kristen Pickens RBI double to right center.
LaDesha Nelson scored on the play after reaching on a single. The Lady Bulldogs would take a 2-0 lead in the third as Pickens would pick up another RBI on a bases loaded walk.
Paige Robertson would pick up an RBI single in the fourth to give Union the 3-0 lead. West Georgia would jump on the board in the top of the seventh to take an 8-3 lead after putting up right runs in the final inning to set the final as Union was unable to rally in the bottom half.
Senior, Nelson, led Union with a three-hit game while Pickens led with two RBIs and going 1-for-3.
Parker Davis (3-6) took the loss going 6.2 innings giving up six runs on five hits.
Ashley Graves came on to record the last out in relief to give up two runs, one earned, on two hits.
The Wolves held the momentum going into the second game of the day. Errors hurt the Lady Bulldogs in the first inning as five runs scored, one earned, to give West Georgia the early 5-0 lead. UWG added to their lead in the third as they pushed across three more runs to lead 8-0.
Emily Bennett would cut the lead to 8-2 in the bottom half of the inning on a double to left center to score two runs.
Gabby Morris would then make the score 8-3 on her RBI ground out.
West Georgia's bats would stay hot as the Wolves put up four more runs in the fifth inning. Facing of losing my mercy rule, Union managed two runs in the bottom half to stay alive to trail 12-5. The Lady Bulldogs held off the West Georgia offense the remainder of the game, but failed to push across any runs to fall 12-5.
Bennett led Union going 3-for-4 and two RBIs while Morris added three RBIs on her 1-for-4 day. Hailey Cumming and
Haley Barnette added two hits each. The Lady Bulldogs used four pitchers in the game to combine for 12 runs, three earned, on 10 hits.
Union softball graduates three seniors,

LaDesha Nelson, and
Hailey Cummings, as their season comes to an end.
