JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team split a Gulf South Conference double header against West Georgia Saturday afternoon to clinch their seventh GSC series of the year.

Game One
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Wolves wasted no time getting started in the first game of the double header pushing across five runs to open the contest with help from a two run homer and a two RBI single. West Georgia stretched their lead again in third with another two run single to take the 7-0 lead.
- The Bulldogs scored their first runs of the game on an RBI single from Hayden Lewis that allowed Nolen Milton to score, then Zach Phillips was able to come in and score on wild pitch that made the game 7-2.
- Union scored another run in the sixth on an RBI single from Ryne Roper, but the Wolves homered in the top of the sixth and ninth innings to regain their seven run advantage, 10-3, going into the bottom of the ninth.
- In their last chance at the plate, Union got two runners aboard when Zach Phillips launched a three run shot to left field, his twelfth of the season, to make the score 10-6 but could not complete the comeback.
POSTGAME STATS
- Teddy Christie started the game on the mound completing 5.0 innings of work giving up seven runs in the stretch with five strikeouts. Skyler Harrison relieved the senior right hander going 3.0 innings of his own giving up just one run on two hits. Tommy Weiler recorded the final three outs giving up two runs.
- Zach Phillips led the way at the plate for Union going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Dylan Moore and Nolen Milton both recorded two hits in the contest as well.
Game Two
WHAT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless three innings to open the second half of the double header, it was Union who broke the 0-0 tie with a long homer over the right field fence in right field from Hayden Lewis that scored Zach Phillips for the 2-0 Union lead.
- The Wolves got a run back in the top of the sixth on a sac fly to left to cut the Union lead to 2-1
- The Bulldogs opened the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two run homer from Zach Phillips and an RBI single from Tyler Mauzy to make the score 5-1.
- West Georgia scored a run in the top of the seventh but Union held on for the 5-2 win.
POSTGAME STATS
- Ryne Roper started on the mound for Union going five innings without giving up a run and earning a strikeout. Austin Kitterman and Marty Coursey combined for the final frame of action each giving up a single run and a strikeout each.
- Zach Phillips and Hayden Lewis continued their hot hitting each belting two run homers in the series clinching win.

Union finishes out the regular season schedule on Tuesday at UT Martin before traveling to Delta State for the Gulf South Conference Tournament next week.
