WHAT HAPPENED
  • North Alabama wasted no time getting on the board scoring three runs in the top of the first inning with help from two Union errors to take the early 3-0 lead.
  • It took until the bottom of the fourth for Union to get on the board, and it was Nolen Milton who slugged his 11th homer of the year over the right field fence to cut the deficit to two.
  • The Bulldogs scratched across another run in the sixth on a bases loaded walk from Hayden Lewis scored Tyler Mauzy from third and bring Union within one run, 3-2.
  • The Lions added an insurance run in the top of the eighth on an RBI triple to dead center field that moved the score to 4-2 in favor of UNA.
  • The Bulldogs rallied in the bottom of the eighth scoring on a bases loaded wild pitch with Milton scoring on the play. After two walks and a single, Hayden Lewis drew a walk with the bases loaded again that scored Zack Wylie from third to tie the game 4-4. David Robins then came to the plate and lifted a ball to center field allowing Mason Castile to scamper home after entering as a pinch runner for Dylan Moore earlier in the inning and gave Union the lead, 5-4.
  • The Lions returned the favor in the top of the ninth taking advantage of a leadoff hit by pitch followed by another Union error on the ensuing bunt attempt to start the inning. UNA was able to get both runners home to retake the lead, 6-5 over the Bulldogs, that would be good enough to take the first game of the series.
