JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team defeated the University of West Alabama Tigers in the rubber match. The Lady Bulldog bats vaulted Union to the mercy rule win, 9-1.

Game One
WHAT HAPPENED
- West Alabama led off the game picking up a run in the top of the first. Allison Craft reached on a walk and would come around to score on the single by Sarah Beth King.
- Union answered in the bottom half of the inning as Hannah Ridolfi would reach on an error. Ashley Scott would score Ridolfi on the next play as she doubled to left center to tie the game, 1-1. Gabby Morris would come up big in the next at-bat, sending the ball over the centerfield fence for the two-run homer to give Union the 3-1 lead.
- The Lady Bulldogs would extend their lead in the second inning, picking up three runs. Rachel Ridolfi reached on a double to leftfield, and would move to third on the bunt single by Emily Bennett. Hannah Ridolfi would score Rachel Ridolfi on a single through the right side. Bennett would then score on a throwing error. Haley Barnette would come up with runners on first and third later in the inning. Barnette sent a shot to the centerfield fence to earn the 2-RBI double to help Union to the 7-1 lead.
- Scott would hit her second double of the game in the fourth inning that would score Bennett who reached on an infield single.
- Going into the fifth inning, leading 8-1, Rachel Ridolfi would pick up the walkoff single to score Marley Dyess from second. Dyess entered as a pinch runner for Hailey Cummings who reached on a Tiger error.
POSTGAME STATS
- Multiple Union players had two hits in the game. Ashley Scott, Gabby Morris, and Haley Barnette each led with two RBIs each. For the second game in a row, Union struck out just one time on the day.
- Hannah Ridolfi (11-7) earned the win in the circle going five innings, giving up one run on seven hits and striking out seven West Alabama batters.
- West Alabama's Chelsea Lobitos led the Tigers going 2-for-3 while Sarah Beth King picked up the lone RBI for West Alabama.
- Andrea Edmonds took the loss going 1.2 innings giving up seven runs, six earned, on seven hits. Abby McKee came on in relief for the Tigers, going three innings giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits.

Union will travel to LeMoyne-Owen College Tuesday, March 28 for the midweek double-header starting at 2 p.m. On Wednesday, the Lady Bulldogs will then travel to Bethel University for a double-header at 2 p.m.
