JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team posted a split in a double-header Friday at Fesmire Field. Union lost 11-5 in game one, but then rebounded with three home runs in a 6-2 win in game two.

GAME 1
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union scored first with a run in the first inning. A bases loaded walk to Hayden Lewis scored Nolen Milton.
- West Alabama answered with two runs in the second inning when Morrisette hit a 2-run homer to left-center field.
- In the fourth inning, another UWA two run home from Lee put the Tigers up 4-1. The Tigers added three runs in the in the fifth and four in the sixth to reach double figures in runs with 11.
- Union got a pair of runs in the fifth when Zach Phillips homered to left-center field, driving in Dylan Moore. Union scored one in the sixth on an RBI since from Milton and another in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Milton.
POSTGAME STATS
- Union's Lewis led with three hits, while David Robins and Wylie had two each. Milton and Phillips led with two RBI each.
- West Alabama was led by five players with two hits each. All nine starting hitters recorded at least one hit in the game. Lee led with four RBI, while Phillips and Morrisette added two RBI each.
- JR Miller (4-1) for Union took his first loss of the year, going 5.1 innings, allowing 11 runs, eight earned on 12 hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Austin Kitterman tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two whits with seven strikeouts.
- Cole Waites started for UWA, going 4.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and five walks. Jonathan Porter (2-2) earned the win, tossing 2.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits with two walks. Lary and Booth added one innings each of relief for the Tigers.
GAME 2
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union again scored first in the first. Milton drove in Robins on a sacrifice fly.
- West Alabama took the lead with two runs in the third inning, both coming on wild pitches. The Tigers did get three hits in the inning, leaving one runner on base.
- Union, still without a hit, went into the bottom of the fifth inning down 2-1. The Bulldogs however broke up the no-hit bid by UWA pitcher Layton Dill with a pair of back-to-back home runs from Ryne Roper and Zach Wylie. Other than the two home runs, Dill posted three strikeouts in the inning.
- In the top of the sixth inning, Union starter Teddy Christie loaded the bases with one out and was relieved by Marty Coursey. Coursey posted a strikeout and then got a line-out to right field to escape the inning with no runs being scored.
- Union went back to work offensively in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Mauzy led off with a single, knocking Dill out of the game for UWA. Milton was then hit by a pitch on the first pitch from Wallace. After an out on a fielder's choice, Union Phillips hit his second home run of the day, this time a 3-run shot to left center to extend the Union lead to 6-2. The Bulldogs added five unanswered runs all by way of the long ball.
- Coursey retried the side in the top of the seventh, including two strikeouts, to earn the save.
POSTGAME STATS
- Union had just four hits in the game, four players with one each, three of the four hits were home runs. Phillips led with three RBI.
- Christie (7-1) got the win, tossing 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, seven strikeouts and two walks. Coursey tossed the final 1.2 innings, allowing no runs with a walk and three strikeouts.
- West Alabama was led by Phillips with two hits. Dill (3-3) took the loss, allowing four run on three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Wallace tossed the final inning in relief, allowing two runs on one hit with a strikeout.
