JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Lady Bulldog softball team split in a double header against the Mississippi College Lady Choctaws. Union was able to pull off the mercy rule win, 16-6, in game one, but fell 9-6 in game two.

GAME 1
WHAT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College got on the board first in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Ty Buckley.
- Union busted the game open in the bottom half of the first as the Lady Bulldogs scored eight runs. Union recorded just one hit in the inning, but 10 walks by the Lady Choctaw pitchers vaulted the Lady Bulldogs ahead, 8-1.
- Union would then capitalize on a couple errors by the Mississippi College defense as they put up five more runs to take a 13-1 lead.
- MC picked up another run to cut the lead, 13-2, in the top of the third inning.
- The Lady Bulldogs would get the run back in the bottom half of the inning as Hailey Cummings would reach on an error that would also score a run to lead, 14-2.
- The Lady Choctaws added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning on a double and a single.
- Paige Robertson would give Union two runs on her RBI double down the left field line to push the Union lead to 16-4.
- Mississippi College added two runs on two solo shots to left field, but it would not be enough as Union took game one 16-6.
POSTGAME STATS
- Ashley Scott led Union at the plate going 2-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Emily Bennett scored four times in the game while going 1-for-2 with two walks.
- Hannah Ridolfi (8-4) picked up the win in the circle going 4.1 innings giving up six runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking six.
- Mississippi College was led by Katherine Lee going 2-for-3 picking up an RBI and a run scored. On the mound, Penny Nichols took the loss giving up five runs with five walks.
GAME 2
WHAT HAPPENED
- Union took the early lead, 1-0, in the second inning as Kristen Pickens picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice to the shortstop.
- The Mississippi College bats would come alive in the top of the third inning as they pick up five runs on a 2-run homer, 2-run double, and a single.
- The Lady Bulldogs were able to fight back and tie the game in the bottom half of the inning, 5-5. Haley Barnette would pick up an RBI on a single through the left side. LaDesha Nelson would then reach on a fielder's choice that would also score a run. Robertson would also score on the play on an error by the MC first basemen. Rachel Ridolfi then tied the game on a double to left field to score Nelson.
- The Lady Choctaws added four more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 9-5 lead. Union would cut the deficit to 9-6 in the bottom half, but was unable to pull off the come from behind win.
POSTGAME STATS
- Multiple Union hitters picked up a hit in the game. Paige Robertson scored twice while going 1-for-3.
- Gabby Morris (4-4) recorded the loss going 3.2 innings giving up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits. Parker Davis came on in relief, going 3.1 innings giving up just one run, none earned, on three hits.
- Mississippi College was led by MaKenzie Nieto, going 3-for-4 scoring twice. Penny Nichols picked up the win, going 4.2 innings in relief while giving up three runs on three hits.
