JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's basketball defeated the University of West Georgia 94-89 in overtime Saturday evening at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Neither team led by more that six points in the game.

WHAT HAPPENED
	- West Georgia opened the game with a 3-pointer from Stephaun Branch, but Union scored seven of the next nine points to lead 7-5. The teams went back and forth for the rest of the half. West Georgia led by as many as five points, 19-14, while Union led by as many as four points twice. West Georgia's Branch hit another 3-pointer with 11 seconds left before the half to tie the game 41-41. Union's Alex Keel then drove the length of the court and dished to Charlie Wilson for a layup just ahead of the buzzer to give Union the 43-41 halftime lead. 
 
	- Branch had 18 points at the half to lead all scorers, while Union's Ashanti Day led his team with 13 first half points. 
 
	- Over the first five-plus minutes of the second half, Union worked their lead up to five points, 55-50, their largest of the game to this point. West Georgia answered with a 7-0 run to regain the lead, 57-55 with 11:11 left in the game. 
 
	- With the game tied 63-63, West Georgia posted a 6-0 run to take the largest lead of either team in the game, 69-63, with six minutes left. Union trailed 75-71 with 3:34 left in the game when the Bulldogs rolled off an 8-0 run to regain the lead, 79-75, with 1:12 left in the game. 
 
	- West Georgia got a pair of free throws with 57 seconds left from Branch, cutting the deficit to just two, 79-77. After Union's Jarad Scott hit one-of-two free throws, UWG's Branch hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left to tie the game 80-80. Union missed on a final shot for the win.
 
	- Branch opened overtime with another 3-pointer for the Wolves to give his team the early OT lead, 83-80. Tray Boyd for Union answered to tie the game with a 3-pointer. West Georgia scored four of the next six points, including the seventh 3-pointer from Branch, to take an 87-85 lead with two minutes left. Union's Scott was fouled on a rebound and sank two free throws to tie the game 87-87 with 1:20 left.
 
	- Union got a defensive stop with 44 seconds left. Boyd hit a step-back 3-pointer with 33 seconds left to give his team the lead. After a missed by West Georgia, Union's Scott grabbed another rebound. KC Goodwin hit a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to put Union up 92-87. West Georgia's Aren Ulmer hit two free throws to stop Union's 7-0 run, but Boyd answered with two free throws to put his team back up by five points, 94-89 with eight seconds left and that stood as the final. 
 
STAT OF THE GAME
In a close game the entire time, West Georgia's largest lead was six points, while Union's largest lead of the game was five points. Both teams held the lead for almost the same amount of time, 19:45 for Union and 19:43 for the Wolves. The game featured 14 ties and 13 lead changes. 
TEAM STATS
	- Union shot 43 percent from the field, 39 percent (15-39) from behind the arc and 94 percent (17-18) from the free throw line. 
 
	- West Georgia shot 42 percent from the field, 44 percent (10-23) from long range and 77 percent (13-17) from the free throw line. 
 
	- West Georgia out rebounded Union 50-40 in the game, including 19-11 on the offensive glass. Union committed just nine turnovers in the game to 12 from the Wolves. 
 
PLAYER STATS
	- Union was led by Boyd with 23 points including five 3-pointers. Five other Union players reached double figures including Charlie Wilson with 17, Day with 15, Goodwin with 13, Scott with 12 and Nick Velasquez with 12. Wilson added 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. 
 
	- West Georgia was led by Branch with a game-high 37 points, including 7-of-8 shooting from behind the arc. He also added 10 points. Ivan Saicic added 19 points and Shannon Fowler scored 10 points.
