Union softball completes sweep of CBU

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Lady Bulldog softball team earned the complete sweep of the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs. Union won the final game of the three-game series, 9-2. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-3 in the GSC and 11-5 overall.

Game 1
WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Bulldogs scored in the bottom half of the first inning for the second time on the weekend. Ashley Scott kept picked up a two RBI single to put Union on top, 2-0. Abby Swilley would then score on a throwing error by the CBU catcher to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • CBU responded in the top of the second when Kylie Steagall scored on a single by Alexis Seward. Julia Schassburger would also score on a throwing error by the Lady Bulldog right fielder.
  • Union would extend their lead by one run, 4-2, in the bottom half of the inning as Hannah Ridolfi singled through the right side to score Emily Bennett.
  • The Lady Bulldogs would pick up another run in the third as Bennet picked up an RBI single to score Gabby Morris.
  • In the fifth inning, Union pushed across two more runs to lead CBU, 7-2. Bennett picked up her second RBI of the day drilling a triple to left center that scored Paige Robertson all the way from first. Bennett would come around to score on a single by Union's leadoff, Ridolfi.
  • The Lady Bulldogs scored two more in the sixth inning to set the final, 9-2. Morris scored on a single to center field by Bennett to earn her third RBI of the game. Kristen Pickens would then send a sacrifice fly out to center field to score Robertson.

POSTGAME STATS
  • Hannah Ridolfi and Emily Bennett both led with three hits in the game. Bennett had three RBIs while Ridolfi and Ashley Scott added two.
  • Ridolfi (6-2) would come on in relief on the mound to earn the win in her 4.1 innings of work. Ridolfi gave up just four hits and struck out five. Parker Davis started in the circle going 2.2 innings giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits and striking out two.

UP NEXT
Union will travel to Delta State University for a three-game series against the Lady Statesmen. The Lady Bulldogs will play a double-header Saturday, March 4 starting at 2 p.m., and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
