SEARCY, Ark. – The Union University pulled out a 6-5 non-conference win on Wednesday afternoon at Harding University to continue their hot start to the 2017 campaign.

WHAT HAPPENED
- After three scoreless innings, Union was the first on the board with a single run in the top of the fourth when Zach Wylie grounded out allowing Tyler Mauzy to come in to score. The Bulldogs added two more runs to their total in their next trip to the plate courtesy of a two run homer from Hayden Lewis that scored Zach Phillips.
- Harding got their first run of the contest in the bottom half of the fifth with an RBI double scoring a single run. The Bisons added another run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single that made the score 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
- Union retook their two run lead in the top of the seventh with Lewis driving in another run on a single through the right side.
- After another Harding run in the bottom of the eighth, Union added some insurance runs in the ninth when David Robbins singled up the middle driving home both Phillips and Lewis with help of an error by centerfielder to make the score 6-3.
- Harding once again closed the gap in the final frame thanks to three errors by the Union infield. However, the Bulldogs were able to finish out the game to win 6-5.
POSTGAME STATS
- Cooper Bullough started on the mound for Union going 2.1 innings giving up just one run on two hits. He was replaced by Skylar Harrison who earned the win in the contest, his first of the season, going 4.2 innings giving up just one earned run and striking out three batters. Tommy Weiler made his first appearance of the season, and his first since getting injured the opening game of the 2016, in relief tossing one inning without giving up a run and striking out two batters. Ryne Roper earned the save throwing the final inning giving up one earned run and striking out two batters.
- Hayden Lewis led the Bulldogs, accounting for five of Union's six runs with three RBI and two runs scored. Zach Phillips also stood out at the plate going 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

The Bulldogs return to Gulf South Conference action this weekend hosting Christian Brothers for the three game set. First pitch for Saturday's double header is set for 1:00 p.m.
