Union stays perfect in GSC action with double header sweep of CBU

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University team earned the sweep in the first day of a Gulf South Conference series against Christian Brothers to stay perfect in conference play.

Game One
WHAT HAPPENED
  • Union busted the game open in the bottom of the first inning pushing across five runs on four hits. Zach Wylie had an RBI double that scored Union's first run with David Robins scoring, the Dylan Moore drove in another in the next at bat on an RBI single, then Hayden Lewis pushed in a run on a fielder's choice to make the score 3-0. Ryne Roper finished the scoring in the frame with an RBI double of his own scoring Lewis and Moore to take the 5-0 lead.
  • The Bulldogs kept up the offensive show putting up three runs in the bottom of the third with Zach Phillips scoring on a passed ball, Robins driving in a run on an RBI double to left and a RBI single from Tyler Mauzy.
  • Lewis added another run in the fifth on a solo homer deep to right field, his fourth long ball of the year. 
  • The Bulldogs pushed across runs in the eighth and ninth with a RBI double from Nolen Milton and a sacrifice fly out from Chase Diggs to round out the scoring.
  • The Bucs only managed two runs in the game with single runs coming in  the second and sixth innings on an RBI double and a ground out that pushed a run across.


 
POSTGAME STATS
  • JR Miller earned his third win on the year to keep his perfect record going 7.0 innings in the start giving up just two runs on six hits and striking out seven batters. Joe Hudson tossed the final two innings of work in relief striking out two batters.
  • David Robins led the game at the plate for Union going 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Hayden Lewis also scored three times for Union with two hits.



Game Two
WHAT HAPPENED
  • After not earning a baserunner in the first three innings of action, Union finally got their first hit in the sixth with a single from David Robins through the left side of the infield. Just one batter later, Nolen Milton drove him home on a triple over the centerfielder's head to give Union the lead. Just one batter later Milton then cam home to score on a balk by CBU's pitcher to make the Bulldog lead 2-0.
  • Union broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs with Austin Orr scoring on a passed ball, Tyler Mauzy scoring on an RBI single from Milton, who then scored on a wild pitch.
  • CBU scored a run in the seventh on an RBI single, but could not mount a comeback.


 
POSTGAME STATS
  • Teddy Christie earned his fourth win of the season with a complete game going seven innings giving up only three hits while striking out eight batters.
  • Nolen Milton kept up his hot hitting from last week going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. David Robins and and Austin Orr, who entered as a defensive substitution, also had hits in the game.

Union finishes off the three game set with the Bucs tomorrow in an effort to stay perfect in GSC action. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
