Union men fall at West Florida 64-58

PENSACOLA, Fla.. – The Union University men's basketball team lost at the University of West Florida Saturday, 64-58. Union splits the season series with UWF after winning at home in December, 94-91 in overtime.

WHAT HAPPENED
Union scored first and often, opening a 10-2 lead at West Florida at the 17:14 mark of the first half. With Union leading 12-5, UWF scored nine straight to lead 14-12 with 11:16 left. Union went over six minutes without a field goal before Jarad Scott's layup with 9:47 left gave Union a 15-14 lead. The teams swapped leads for the rest of the half with Union taking a 29-26 lead into the locker room.
 
Union started the second half with a 3-point play from Charlie Wilson to lead by six points. After a UWF 3-pointer, Union's Scott answered with a three and Wilson with a layup to give Union an 8-point lead again, matching their largest of the game.
 
West Florida stayed close and Union was unable to extend their lead. The Argos finally caught the Bulldogs in the second half at the 8:58 mark on a 3-pointer by Marvin Jones to lead 45-43.
 
Union never led again as West Florida went up by as many as seven points, 52-45, with 4:55 left. Union battled back and got as close as one point late and were down just two with 26 seconds left. But West Florida was 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the last 26 seconds to seal the win.

STAT OF THE GAME
Union is now 6-7 in games decided by 10 points or less this season. It was also their fourth loss when leading at the half.

TEAM STATS
Union shot 36 percent from the field, 26 percent (7-27) from long range and 65 percent (11-17) from the free throw line.
West Florida shot 42 percent from the field, 25 percent (4-16) from 3-point range and 69 percent (18-26) from the free throw line.
West Florida out rebounded 44-28, while Union committed 12 turnovers to 17 for the Argos. It was also the first time in six game and only the sixth time all season that Union has not hit at least 10 3-pointers in a game.

PLAYER STATS
Union was led Tray Boyd with 22 points including four 3-pointers. Charlie Wilson added 11 points and Jarad Scott scored 10 points.
West Florida was led by Deangelo Legrier with 21 points and 12 rebounds. DJ Thorpe added 11 points and Marvin Jones scored 10.
