JACKSON, Tenn.. – The Union University men's basketball team lost 85-75 to Delta State University Thursday evening. The Bulldogs led by eight midway through the second half, but a 27-7 run by the Statesmen over the final seven minutes vaulted DSU over Union. The two teams split the regular season meetings with Union winning 73-72 at Delta State Dec. 31.

WHAT HAPPENED
Delta State jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start the game. Union chipped away and tied the game 13-13. After and 8-0 run by the Bulldogs, Union led 18-13 with 11:07 left in the first half. Three pointers from Jarad Scott and Bennett Fuzak sparked the Union run. 

The teams went back-and-forth union an 11-2 run by the Statesmen propelled DSU to a 30-22 lead with 4:19 left in the half. Union responded with a 9-1 run and a 3-pointer from Tray Boyd tied the game 31-31 with 1:17 left. DSU however scored five of the next seven points to take a 36-33 lead into the locker room. 

The second half started with Delta State maintaining a small lead until Union's KC Goodwin's layup with 15:25 left gave Union a 44-43 lead. The teams swapped a couple of leads before Union posted a 9-0 run. A 3-point play from Fuzak, followed by 3-pointers from Fuzak and Boyd had Union leading 60-52 with 11:14 left. Union pushed their lead to 10 following a 3-pointer from Ashanti Day with 7:39 left in the game. 

Delta State responded with a 20-3 run and led 78-71 with 1:19 left in the game. Union got a quick layup from Goodwin to cut the deficit to five points with 1:13 left, promoting a timeout by Union. Delta State scored out of the timeout and then added a pair of free throws to push their lead to nine points, 82-73 with 43 seconds left. After a pair of free throws from Goodwin, DSU hit a 3-pointer to set the final scored at 85-75. 

STAT OF THE GAME
Delta State outscored Union 27-7 over the final 7:32 of the game. 

TEAM STATS
Union shot 49 percent form the field, 40 percent (7-17) from long range and 65 percent (11-17) from the free throw line. 
Delta State shot 54 percent from from the field, 45 percent (9-20) from 3-point range and 67 percent (10-15) from the free throw line. 
Delta State out rebounded Union 36-26, including 8-4 on the offensive glass. Union committed 14 turnovers to just eight for DSU. 

PLAYER STATS
Union was led by Boyd with 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Goodwin added 18 points and Day scored 10 points. 
Delta State was led by Henry with 22 points, including 4-for-4 from 3-point range. Schmidt added 21 points, Warner scored 20 and Davis finished with 13 points.
