JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball remained perfect on the season with a two game sweep of Maryville University Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won the first game 5-3 in walk-off fashion and 6-1 in the second contest of the afternoon.

Game 1
WHAT HAPPENED
- Maryville got the early lead with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the fourth to lead 1-0.
- Union rallied in the bottom half of the fourth with a two RBI double scoring both Zach Phillips and Nolen Milton. David Robins followed that up with an RBI double of his own scoring Lewis to give Union a 3-1 lead.
- Maryville out runs up in the fifth and sixth that tied the game at 3-3. That score would hold through nine innings sending the game to extras.
- Robins reached on a double down the left field line the bottom of the tenth. Tyler Mauzy then followed him up with a two run homer over the left field wall for the walkoff 5-3 win.
POSTGAME STATS
- JR Miller started the game for Union on the hill going five innings giving up just two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Austin Kitterman came into the game in relief tossing three innings giving up a run on four hits. Cooper Bullough earned his first win of the season with two innings of work giving up two hits and no runs while striking out two batters.
- Tyler Mauzy went 3-for-4 in the win including his game winning long ball. David Robins also had a big game in his first contest in a Union uniform, the transfer junior went 2-for-4 with two doubles with a runs score and an RBI. Zach Phillips also had three hits in the game going 3-for-5 in the contest.
Game 2
WHAT HAPPENED
- It was Union jumping on the board first in the second half of the double header with Zach Phillips launching a three run homer out to left center scoring Dylan Moore and Zach Wylie who reached on a double and walk respectively.
- The Saints got a run back in the fifth on an RBI single making the score 3-1.
- Tyler Mauzy opened the bottom half of the fifth with a single to left, bringing to the plate Zach Wylie who lifted a home run to left field plating two more runs for the Bulldogs.
- Later in that frame, Nolen Milton tripled to right center and was driven home by Hayden Lewis who beat out an infield grounder allowing Milton to score pushing Union's lead to five, 6-1.
POSTGAME STATS
- Teddy Christie earned his second win of the year on the mound tossing six dominate innings. Christie faced the minimum through three innings and worked out of jams in the fifth and sixth while only giving up one run on five hits while striking out five batters. Ryne Roper closed the game in his first appearance on the bump walking one batter and striking out a batter in the final three outs of the game.
- The homers from Phillips and Wylie were their only hits of the game in three trips to the plate, but accounted for five of the Bulldog's runs. Tyler Mauzy continued his hot hitting going 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored.
