Jackson, TENN.- The Union University women's basketball team defeated Martin Methodist 77-70 on Saturday night in an exhibition game for homecoming.
The Lady Bulldogs took the lead early and kept it for most of the game. At the end of the first half, Union led Martin Methodist 43-30.
The Lady Bulldogs were 6-of-13 in the first half from 3-point range.
In the second half, the RedHawks played Union close, but never took the lead. The final score was 77-70.
Union was led by Chelsey Shumpert with 27 points, six assists, and eight rebounds. Sara Lytle recorded a double-double 19 points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs were 41 percent from the field and 27 percent (8-29) from 3-point range.
Martin Methodist was led Mickey Head and Treasure Hunt with 11 points a piece. Jemia Carpenter led the RedHawks with eight rebounds. Martin Methodist shot 39.6 percent from the field and 51 percent (14-27) from 3-point range.
Up next for Union will be another exhibition game at Georgia Tech, November 5 at 1 p.m. central time
