Valdosta State defeats Union women's soccer 4-1

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team was defeated by Valdosta State University 4-1 Friday evening. The Lady Bulldogs are now 4-9 overall and 4-8 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State improved to 10-4-2 overall and 8-3-2 in the GSC. VSU is third in the GSC standings, while Union's plans for a second straight tournament appearance took a blow with the loss.

Union had four shots in the match compared to eight by the Blazers in the first half, but neither team scored a goal. 

In the 48th minute, the Blazer's Riley Tennant, assisted by Mallory McDaniel, scored the first goal of the match.  

Brooke Watson answered for Union with a goal in the 67th minute assisted by Taylor Knight

Valdosta State went on to dominate the final 18 minutes of play. In the 72nd minute, Tennant scored again, assisted by Megan Muffley. Four minutes later, Sabrina Magno scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Kira Malpica. Tennant, assisted by Ashley Lewis, scored the final goal of the game and her earned her 10th goal of the season and third of the night. 

Valdosta State out shot Union 19-13 in the match. 

Union was led by Olivia Schmitke with three shots, Brooke Watson and Allie Herring with two shots on goal. 

Up next for Union is their last home game on the season against the University of West Florida Sunday, October 22 at 2 p.m.
