JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team rolled to their second shutout win Friday evening on Family Weekend 7-0 over Shorter University. Union improves to 3-3-2 on the season and 3-1-1 in Gulf South Conference action.
The Lady Bulldogs netted their first goal early when
Kayleigh Patterson worked her way inside the box to chip a ball over the goalie in the 10th minute of play. Just over a minute later Paterson scored her second goal of the match scoring on a free kick just outside the box to make the score 2-0 in just the eleventh minute.
In the 34th minute of action
Kelsey Wilkes joined the scoring when she headed in a deflected shot to move the score to 3-0 going into the half.
Diana Barajas earned the assist on the play, her first of the year.
Just after the start of the second half
Sarah Hershbain got her night going in the 49th minute of action scoring on a header from a deflected shot from Wilkes who earned the assist. Hershbain then scored again in the 61st minute after receiving a pass from
Brooke Watson to go up 5-0 on Shorter. Hershbain completed the hat trick in the 87th minute scoring on a free kick for her fifth goal of the season.
Hannah Hewett put the final nail in the coffin scoring with just 20 seconds left in regulation on the assist from
Hannah Daniel to become the ninth Lady Bulldog to score this season.Â
The seven goals scored in the match is second most all time in the program's history with the last time happening in 2010. Hershbain's hat trick also tied the program record for the most goals scored in a match after
Honeye Heydari completed the feat in last year against Delta State.
Union continues their four game home stretch Sunday against #6 Lee with kickoff slated at 2:00 p.m.
