JACKSON, Tennessee- The Union University baseball team won 11-1 Tuesday afternoon against LeMoyne-Owen College to improve to 15-13 on the season.
Union was the first team to get on the board putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a three run homer courtesy of Dylan Moore for his fourth round tripper of the year. The Bulldogs scored another run after an error by the LOC second basemen that gave Union the early 4-0 lead.
The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the third inning on a double steal when Hayden Lewis came in to score from third.
The Magicians scored their lone run in the game in the fifth with back-to-back doubles that cut the Union lead to four runs, 5-1.
The Bulldogs answered LeMoyne-Owen's run in the top of the fifth with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Union loaded the bases with two walks and a hit by pitch when Matthew Duncan came up with a two RBI single through the right side of the infield pushing home Lewis and Zach Phillips. Tyler Mauzy followed that up with an RBI double that scored Austin Orr then Zach Wylie drove in Duncan on the following at-bat. Union scored their last run of the inning on a sacrifice flyout from Moore that put the Bulldogs ahead 10-1.
Union got the walkoff victory in the bottom of the seventh on another sacrifice fly out, this time from Charlie Elllis, that set the final at 11-1.
Dylan Moore ended the day going 2-for-3 with four RBI, a homerun and a double. Zach Wylie and Tyler Mauzy each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to also contribute to the Union cause.
