LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Union University softball team fell in the rubber game to West Alabama (13-20, 5-16 GSC) 5-2 on Saturday, March 26. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 8-30 on the season and 3-18 in league play.
The Lady Bulldogs and West Alabama remained scoreless in a pitching duel between Union's
Hailey Cummings and UWA's Ashley Stassin. The Lady Bulldogs were able to strike first in the top of the fourth inning when
Haley Barnette reached on an error by West Alabama's shortstop.
Anna Morris, pinch runner for Barnette, would come around to score on a double by
Rachel Ridolfi. Union put another run on the board with a single by
Whitney Christian that scored Cummings who also reached on a single earlier in the inning.
The Tigers jumped on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three runs, all unearned, to take the lead 3-2. UWA added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead 5-2 going into the seventh inning. Down three runs in the seventh, the Lady Bulldogs were unable to stings hits together to set the final at 5-2.
Rachel Ridolfi led Union at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and single.
Hailey Cummings got the loss on the mound going six innings, giving up five runs, two earned, on seven hits.
Union will return home to host Lane College Monday, March 28 with a double-header starting at 3:00 p.m.
