No. 11 Union women shoot past West Alabama 76-60

JACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 11 Union University women's basketball team posted a 76-60 win over the University of West Alabama Saturday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 21-2 on the season and 15-2 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama dropped to 7-14 overall and 4-13 in league play.
 
Union exploded for 26 points in the second quarter to jump out to a 41-25 halftime lead. Union scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back. Union held their largest lead of the game at 22 points, 69-47, following a 3-point play from Tiara Caldwell with 7:14 left in the game.
 
Chelsea Bodiford led Union with 11 first half points including three 3-pointers. She finished the game with 13 points. Kelsey Risner and Tiffany Rechis led Union with four 3-pointer each. Risner had 13 points, while Rechis posted 12 points. Caldwell scored 17 of her game-high 25 points in the second half.
 
Union shot 44 percent from the field, 42 percent (11-26) from 3-point range and 63 percent (15-24) from the free throw line.
 
West Alabama was led by Ariel Wilson with 21 points. Catherine Taylor added 15 points and Sydney King led with 12 rebounds. The Lady Tigers shot 39 percent from the field, 29 percent (7-24) from long range and 75 percent (3-4) from the free throw line.
