No. 11 Union women roll past Valdosta State 74-51

VALDOSTA Ga. – The No. 11 Union University women's basketball team posted a 74-51 win at Valdosta State University. Union improved to 22-2 overall and 16-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State dropped to 11-12 overall and 7-11 in league play.
 
With the Union win at losses by both Delta State and Lee, the Lady Bulldogs now have a three game lead in the GSC standings with four games remaining in the regular season. 
 
Union opened the game with a 10-0 run over the first two minutes of play. Union never trailed in the game as the extended their lead to 15 points, 26-11, by the end of the first quarter.  The teams played mostly even in the second quarter as Union held a 38-24 lead at the half.
 
The second half started with Union continuing a 3-0 run that ended the first half, scoring another 10-9 run to push their lead to 21 points, 45-24. Union led by as many as 27 points twice in the fourth quarter before taking the 74-51 final.
 
Chelsea Bodiford continued her hot shooting with a game high 15 points on five 3-pointers. Bodiford has averaged 18 points per game over the last three games. Kelsey Risner surpassed the 1,000 point mark for her career, scoring nine points in the game to put her at 1,002 career points. Tiffany Rechis added 14 points. Rechis has hit four 3-pointer in each of the last two games.
 
This game marked the third straight game for Union to hit at least 11 three pointers. Union was 12-for-27 in the game for 44 percent. Union shot 42 percent from the field and 90 percent (18-20) from the free throw line.
 
Valdosta State was led by Owens with 12 points and Davis with 10 points. The Blazers shot 33 percent from the field, 28 percent from 3-point range (5-18) and 62 percent (18-29) from the free throw line.
