JACKSON, Tennessee- The Union University baseball team took the rubber game of their opening Gulf South Conference series with Shorter on Sunday 14-4 to improve to 2-1 in conference play and 8-3 overall.Shorter was the first ones on the board scoring on an RBI double by Dustin Lawson, but was thrown out at third trying to get an extra base on the play. Union tied the game in the bottom of the second when 
Zach Wylie scored on wild pitch to tie the game. Shorter would take the lead again in the top half of the third with another RBI double.
Union rallied back in the bottom of the fourth loading the bases for 
Nolen Milton who grounded into the double play but got a run in to tie the game 2-2. 
Zach Wylie then scored the go ahead run in the next at-bat coming in on a wild pitch. The next batter, 
Tyler Mauzy, ripped a double into right field pushing both 
Austin Orr and 
Hayden Lewis in to give Union the 5-2 advantage. 
The Bulldogs busted the game open in the bottom of the sixth starting with an RBI single from 
Ryne Roper scoring Orr. 
Zach Phillips then drew a bases loaded walk pushing Mauzy home then Wylie grounded into a fielders choice scoring Roper from third to make the score 8-3 for Union. 
Charlie Ellis then came in as a pinch hitter and ripped a line drive into right for an single that scored 
Dylan Moore and 
Zach Phillips pushing the Union lead to seven.
The Bulldogs ended the game early in the seventh loading the bases for 
Dylan Moore who pushed a line drive to right field. The ball then got passed the Shorter fielder allowing Roper, Lewis and Orr all home and for Moore to reach third base. Moore then came home to score on the next batter after a wild pitch got passed the catcher for the walk off win by mercy rule, 14-4.
Skyler Harrison earned his second win of the season in the contest going 6.0 innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out six batters. 
Matthew Pickard tossed the final frame allowing a single run on two hits. 
 Austin Orr paced the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored while 
Dylan Moore went 1-for-5 with two runs and three RBI's. 
Hayden Lewis also continued his hot streak with two hits and two runs in the game. 
Zach Phillips drew three walks while also going 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI.
 Union goes on the road for their next four games with a midweek contest at Harding on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. and then a GSC series at Christian Brothers in Memphis on Saturday and Sunday with games starting at 1:00 p.m. both days.
