CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Union University women's basketball team lost 51-41 at Delta State University Saturday afternoon. Union led at the half, but could not hold on.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Delta State led 13-10 after the first quarter, but Union stormed back with 15 second-quarter points to lead 25-24 at the break. Bria Gains led all scorers with 12 first half points, sparking Union to the lead.
- However, in the third quarter, Union was held scoreless until Chelsea Bodiford hit a jumper with 30 second left in the quarter. Union was outscored 12-2 in the third quarter, the different in the game.
- Union was not done as the Lady Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run, sparked by a 3-pointer from Jada Perkins to start the quarter. Delta State answered with a bucket before Union pulled to within one point again, 38-37, with 5:29 left. However, Union never was able to regain the lead. Delta State outscored Union 14-3 over the final five minutes of play to seal their first GSC win.

Delta State outscored Union 17-0 in second chance points, thanks to dominating the offensive glass 22-7.

- Union shot 38 percent from the field, 33 percent (2-6) from long range and just 38 percent (3-8) from the free throw line.
- Delta State shot 32 percent from the field, 36 percent (3-8) from 3-point range and 71 percent (10-14) from the charity stripe.
- Union had 13 turnovers, to 12 from Delta State. However, the Lady Statesmen dominated the boards, out rebounding Union 45-25, including 22-7 on the offensive glass.

- Union was led by Gaines with 18 points and seven rebounds. Perkins added 12 points and five assists.
- Delta State got 17 points each from Alondrea Rush and Kaelin Kneeland. Ieysha Mays led with 10 rebounds.
