Union women roll for their third straight win to remain perfect

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team rolled to their third straight win to open the season with a 97-56 win over crosstown foe Lane on Tuesday evening to remain perfect on the year.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • After an opening basket from the Lady Dragons, Union opened up a 20-2 run including two threes from both Chelsea Bodiford and Sara Lytle to go up 20-4 in the first seven minutes of the contest.
  • After more back and forth play, Tiffany Rechis closed the first period with a long ball that was followed up by yet another three from Bodiford to open the second. The two combined for six more points for the Lady Bulldogs following a layup from Lane that pushed the Union lead to 21, 36-15.
  • The Lady Bulldogs closed the first half with another seven straight points to go into the locker room up 51-29.
  • Union carried that momentum into the second half carrying a 37-6 run over a 13 minute span to go up by 46 with 3:59 left in the game and held on to win 97-56.

Union had six players in double figures in scoring, a season high for the Lady Bulldogs.

 
TEAM STATS
  • Union shot 59 percent from the field going 31-for-52 and 55 percent from behind the arc knocking down 16 threes. The Lady Bulldogs also shot 76 percent from the charity stripe going 19-of-25.
  • The Lady Bulldogs out rebounded the Lady Dragons by 20 boards grabbing 42 rebounds to Lane's 22.
  • Union turned the ball over 16 times compared to Lane's 14.
  • Both teams had exactly 71 possessions in the game.


PLAYER STATS
  • Union was led by Sara Lytle with 21 points going perfect from the field hitting 5-of-5 in field goals and 2-of-2 threes.
  • The Lady Bulldogs had five other players in double figures with Jada Smith adding 16 points, Tiffany Rechis added 15, all three pointers, Fredi Nielsen had 14, Chelsea Bodiford scored 13 and Megan Lewis added 11.
  • Union point guard Jada Perkins led the game in rebounding with 10 boards while adding eight assists.
  • LeTrice Ragland led the game for the Lady Dragons with 19 points.
