JACKSON, Tenn. - The No. 12 Union University women's basketball team lost in overtime to Clayton State (Ga.) University 98-90 Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union led by five points with 10 seconds left in regulation, but gave up an offensive rebound and then a turnover on the inbound pass gave the Lakes the opportunity to force overtime.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Clayton State scored first on a 3-pointer from Tierra Johnson, but Union responded with an 11-5 run to lead 11-8. However, Clayton State outscored Union 14-4, including a 12-0 run to lead 23-15 just over a minute into the second quarter.
- Union fought back and after a Jada Perkins layup with 2:48 left in the half, the game was tied 33-33. Union's Chelsea Bodiford stopped a 6-0 run by Clayton State with a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the half. Clayton State led 39-36 at the half.
- Early in the third quarter, Union used a 9-2 run to lead 45-41 with 7:38 left. But again, Clayton State used a run of 14-5 to regain control, 55-50 with 2:57 left in the quarter. Union again fought back to trail just 59-58 at the end of the third quarter.
- Clayton State pushed out to a 64-58 lead, put Union used a 6-0 run to tie the game at 64-64. After a basket by Clayton State, Union used a 3-point play from Jada Perkins to apart a 7-0 run to lead 71-66 with 5:13 left in the game.
- Union pushed out to a six point lead, their largest of the game at 79-73 with 58 seconds left. Clayton State cut their deficit to three points after an offensive rebound and put-back set the score at 79-76 with 31 seconds left. Union got two free throws from Jada Perkins to lead 81-76. However, another offensive rebound and put-back by Clayton State layup to cut the deficit to three points. Clayton State then stole the inbounds pass and got a 3-pointer from Tweety Hawkins to tied the game at 81-81, forcing overtime.
- After both teams swapped a pair of scoring possessions to start overtime, Clayton State used a 6-0 run to lead 91-85 with 2:37 left. Clayton State led by six again, 93-87, before Union's Sara Lytle hit a 3-pointer with 1:10 left to cut the lead to just three. However, Clayton State closed out the game with a 5-0 run to seal the 98-90 OT win.

- Clayton State edged Union in rebounds 45-44, but controlled the offensive glass 20-13. Clayton State also dominated in bench points (32-8), points off turnovers (20-4) and second chance points (26-12).

- Jada Perkins led Union with a career high 28 points, while Jada Smith scored 24 points. Fredi Nielsen recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Chelsea Bodiford added 12 points and was 4-of-5 from long range for leaving the game in the second quarter in an injury.
- Johnson led Clayton State with a game-high 31 points. Benford and Hawkins added 18 points, while Cunningham scored 13 and Rackley added 12 points.
