NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Union University softball team posted a double-header sweep Tuesday afternoon at Trevecca Nazarene University 1-0 and 6-0. Union improved to 28-17 on the season, while Trevecca dropped to 27-8.
In the first game, Union got a complete game one-hitter from senior
Kelly Robey (27-20). The only needed offense came on a solo home run from
Reagan Schrader in the third inning. Union managed just four hits, one each from four different players. Robey tallied five strikeouts and just two walks.
The second game was again dominated in the circle from Robey. She tossed another complete game shutout, this time allowing just three hits. She recorded seven strikeouts in the win. The fifth strikeout of the game put Robey at 1,000 strikeouts for her career.
Union got their offense going in the third inning when freshman
Emily Bennett hit her second home run of the season, and of her career. Union added two runs in the fourth, the first coming on an RBI single from
Alex Williams.
Whitney Christian then scored on a double-steal attempt with Williams getting caught in a rundown. Union scored two runs in the fifth. Schrader hit an RBI single followed by an RBI hit from
Hailey Cummings. Union got a second RBI single from Cummings in the seventh to set the final at 6-0.
Carter Mansolino led with Union three hits, while Cummings led with two RBI.
Union closes out the regular season at home this weekend with games versus West Georgia. Union will then participate in the GSC Championships at Valdosta State, April 30-May 2.
