JACKSON, Tenn.- The No. 13 Union University Lady Bulldogs shot past Rust (Miss.) College 110-65. Union improved to 3-0 on the season, while Rust dropped to 0-2. Union hit a record 24 three pointers in the game, setting a school record and Gulf South Conference record.

The old Union record of 19 three pointers in a game was done four different times, with the most recent occurring January 30, 2014 versus Shorter (Ga.). Union also hit 19 3's in a game in March of 2013, February of 2011 and February 2006. The 46 attempts in the game was good for second most all-time. Union attempted 47 in a game March 19, 2014 versus Southern Wesleyan. The old GSC record was 21 made in a game.Â

The Lady Bulldogs got things rolling in the first quarter hitting four three pointers for their first four buckets of the game. Union's two seniors
Kelsey Risner and
Chelsea Bodiford hit two each to start the game. Union continued to make shots as the exploded for 35 points in the first quarter to lead 35-16 after 10 minutes of play. Union outscored Rust 24-22 in the second quarter to lead 59-38 at the half. Union shot 60 percent from the field in the first half and 54 percent (13-24) from long range in the first 20 minutes. Risner and Bodiford both had 15 points on five 3-pointers at the break.

Union continued their hot shooting, putting up 28 more points in the third quarter. Union added 23 in the fourth quarter to win 110-65. Freshman guard
Kayla Bise had the hot hand in the second half, sinking four 3-pointers for her 12 points.

Union dominated the battle of second chance points, outscoring Rust 28-9 in the category thanks to a 50-20 rebounding edge, including 18-7 on the offensive glass. Union's largest lead of the game was 46 points midway through the fourth quarter.

Union finished the game shooting 56 percent from the field, 52 percent (24-46) from long range and 63 percent (10-16) from the free throw line. Eleven of Union's 12 players scored in the game, including five in double figures. Union was led on the night by Bodiford with 23 points, including seven 3-pointers. Risner finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven three pointers.
Tiffany Rechis scored 18 points with four 3-pointers, while Bise added 12 points and
Tiara Caldwell scored 10 points.
Jada Smith, last week's GSC Freshman of the Week, added 12 assists in the game.

Rust was led by Jasmine Golden with 21 points. Demetrius Bradshaw and Alexis Garner each added 12 points. The Bearcats shot 40 percent from the field, 30 percent (8-27) from 3-point range and 61 percent (11-18) from the free throw line.

Up next for Union will be a second straight home contest, Saturday, November 21 at 2 p.m. versus Fisk.
