JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball earned a 68-49 win over Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 13-2 on the season and 9-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers dropped to 5-12 overall and 3-8 in league play. 
Union was slow out of the gate, scoring just two points in the first six minutes of play. Union took their first lead 9-8 at the 12:53 mark on a layup from 
Fredi Nielsen. Union led for the majority of the first half, going up by as many as six points, 24-18, with 4:56 left. However, Christian Brothers rolled off a 7-0 run to lead 25-24 with 1:18 left. But Union closed out the half with a 5-0 run including a 3-pointer from 
Kelsey Risner to lead 29-25 at the half. 
In the second half, Union started out much quicker, pushing the lead to double figures 43-32 in the first six minutes. Union's largest lead of the game was 27 points, 64-37, with 4:24 left to play. As Union rested their starters late, Christian Brothers cut their final deficit to 19 points, 68-49. 
Union was led by 
DeAnna Thompson with 20 points and 11 rebounds. It was her 10
th double-double of the season. Risner added 15 points. 
Amy Philamlee finished with seven points and a game-high seven assists. It was the first time this season for Philamlee, the reigning GSC Player of the Week, to finish in single digits in points. Union shot 42 percent from the field, 42 percent (11-26) from long range, and were a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line. 
Christian Brothers was led by Breanna Ridgell with 19 points. Taylor Pugh added 11 points. The Lady Bucs shot 32 percent from the field, 27 percent (3-11) from 3-point range, and 72 percent (8-11) from the free throw line. 
After weekend off, Union resumes play next Thursday, January 22 at home versus Lee (Tenn.) at 6:00 p.m. The game can be heard on 93.1 FM, seen on Eplus TV 6, or online at
