Before Union
Nielsen transferred to Union from Gordon College where she played one season of basketball. She was named Rookie of the Year in her conference (CCC) as a freshman. She averaged 10.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a freshman. She was second on the team with 87 field goals made and was tops with 63 free throws made. She earned Rookie of the Week honors in the conference two times. Nielsen prepped at Christian Heritage (Conn.) School where she played basketball for three years and volleyball for one season. She was named basketball team MVP as a junior and senior.
