JACKSON, Tenn.- After a tough loss to former TranSouth Conference rival and NAIA No. 13 Martin Methodist College Friday night, Union University lost to another former TranSouth rival Cumberland University Monday night 2-0. Union fell to 1-2 this season while Cumberland improved to 5-0-1.

Cumberland came into Monday night's game ranked eighth in the NAIA national polls and provided Union with a good test before the head into conference play a week from Friday.

Cumberland jumped to an early two-goal lead within the first 22 minutes of the match. Kaitlin Phillips netted the first goal in the 14
th minute of competition into the lower left corner of the Union goal off a pass from Shauna Gilpin. Cumberland's second goal of the night came shortly after when Gilpin scored a goal of her own in the 21
st minute off of a rebounded shot from Emily Shires.

Kristen Francis got her first college start in the net for Union and allowed the two early goals fro Cumberland but came back to finish strong with five total saves.

Union takes on Campbellsville (Ky.) on Friday, September 19
th in Jackson. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
