Union men sink 18 threes in win over Mississippi College

JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University men's basketball team improved to 8-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference Thursday night by taking down Mississippi College 97-65. With the loss Mississippi College drops to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in Gulf South Conference play this season.
 
Following their first loss of the season, the Bulldogs came out hot in the first half shooting 62.1% from the field to lead by as many as 22 late in the half. Senior guard Pedro Faller led the Bulldogs in the first half with 16 points while going 5-5 from the field with four of those field goals coming from behind the 3-point line.
 
Union also set a record for most 3-pointers in a half with 13. The previous record was for 12 3-pointers on three different occasions, the last coming in the 2008-09 season.
 
The Bulldogs kept that pace of play throughout the remainder of the contest with their lead not falling below 17 points and shooting 57.1% from the field to take the game 97-65.
 
Union was led by Marterrace Brock with 23 points, 15 of those coming in the second half, and seven assists. Faller and Roy Bullock each added 16, while Jordan Montgomery had 14 and Eric Leisey had 13. Union shot 59.6% from the field and 60.0% from behind the 3-point line, both coming in as season highs.
 
Faller, Bullock, Brock, and Montgomery each hit four 3-pointers in the game going 16-21 from behind the arc as a group.
Mississippi College was led by Johnny Rucker with 14 points and Emmanuel Ezejiofo added 11. Tristan Moore led the Choctaws with four assists and Rayner Fredrick with seven rebounds.
 
Next up for Union is another home conference game slated for Saturday, December 13th, at 4:00 p.m. when the Bulldogs will take on Delta State at Fred Delay Gymnasium.
