JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's soccer team dropped another tough conference game to the University of West Alabama Friday night 1-0. Union fell to 1-6 in regular season play and 0-3 in Gulf South Conference play, while West Alabama improved to 5-4 in regular season play and 2-1 in conference.
The first half was played well for both sides with Union outshooting West Alabama 7-3 but no goals were scored and both teams entered halftime tied at 0-0.
The lone goal of the game came 77
th minute for West Alabama off of a corner kick. Union goalkeeper
Matt Kesler came slightly out of the goal to punch the ball out of the box but West Alabama's Alex Brown was able to keep the ball in play and ultimately put in the winning goal.
Despite Union's 0-3 conference record, all three of its league losses have been decided by just one goal, with two of those losses coming in overtime periods.
Up next for Union will be nationally ranked conference opponent No. 21 Alabama Huntsville. The match will take place at Union on Sunday, October 5
th, at 4:15 p.m.
