JACKSON, Tenn.-The Union University men's soccer team won their second straight conference game Sunday afternoon against Lee University 1-0. Union improved to 2-6 in Gulf South Conference play and 3-10 overall. Lee fell to 2-5-1 in conference and 7-7-2 overall.
In only the 7
th minute of the match senior
Alex Pratt was able to put a shot on the goal but it bounced right back to him off the right post. Pratt stayed with the play to put in the only goal of the match on the board and give Union the early lead.
After the early goal from Pratt, Union's offense slowed down and the Bulldogs had to rely on a stellar display of defense for the rest of the half that shut down plenty of Lee's offensive attacks.
The second half of play featured more defensive play from Union as they faced nine shots from Lee as well as plenty of other opportunities that could have led to shots. Thanks to that defense, Union was able to hold on to that one goal lead for the rest of the match to seal the win.
Union goalie
Taylor Smith recorded eight saves in the match to help hold off the Lee attack.
Union will play the last game of the regular season on Friday, October 31
st, against Christian Brothers at 7:00 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn. Senior night festivities will take place before the match.
