Before Union
Smith prepped at Jackson Christian School where he played soccer for the Eagles. As a sophomore, he was named All-West Tennessee and all-state, while allowing just 12 goals in 20 games on 124 shots faced with a .0.62 goals against average. Smith added all-tournament, Best of the West, Leadership Award and All-West Tennessee as a junior. Smith's junior season stats including 11 games, 13 goals allowed, 128 saves, one shutout and a 1.18 goals against average. He played just four games as a senior due to injury, however, was still named to the all-district team. Smith set school records for most shutouts (11), most saves (128), lowest goals against average (0.62) and save percentage (90.7%). Smith played club soccer for the Jackson Wolves, TN Rush and Collierville Lobos, starting every game in goal for his club teams. He played in England with the Superclubs International All-Star Team, played five international friendly's, and played one half with the Colchester United Soccer Academy. His Club stats totaled 39 saves and 1.5 shutouts.
