Box Score JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University men's soccer team earned their first conference win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Shorter University at Smith Soccer Complex. Union improved to 2-10 on the season and 1-6 in Gulf South Conference play. Shorter fell to 6-8-1 overall and 4-3 in conference.
The first half had plenty of action with Shorter striking first in the 19
th minute when Robert Ochieng was able to net a goal from on an assist from Jonas Uhlhorn.
Union was quick to answer when
Nil Cierco blasted a free kick into the bottom left corner of the net from 30 yards away in the 27
th minute.
Union then took the lead in the 34
th minute when
Clayton Martin scored at close range on a cross into the box from
Paul Langford.
Union was outshot by Shorter 23-8 in the match but was still able to hold onto that one goal lead throughout a very physical second half to earn the victory.
Taylor Smith recorded 11 saves while the team had three saves on several near misses from Shorter.
Union will have another home conference match October 26
th against Lee University at 4:15 p.m. The Bulldogs will then finish up their regular season next Friday, October 31
st, at 7:15 p.m. against Christian Brothers. Senior Night festivities will take place before the start of that match.
