JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team dropped Saturday's home match to No. 21 University of West Florida 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-20). Union fell to 7-18 on the season and 3-10 in league play. West Florida improved to 20-7 overall and a league best 12-2 in GSC play.
In the first set, West Florida proved their high ranking as they dominated play. The Argonauts used runs of 6-0 and 4-0 to pull away. Union did not manage back-to-back points in the set.
The second set was close most of the way with six ties and four lead changes. Union stretched a lead out to as many as three points three different times with the last coming 18-15. However, West Florida closed out the set by winning 10 of the final 11 points to go up 2-0.
In the third set, Union again stayed close and held a slim 17-16 lead late in the set. But West Florida put together a couple of 4-0 runs, including the final four points of the set to win 3-0.
Union was led by
Kristin Cook with eight kills,
Lydia Wright led with 15 assists,
Morgan Morfe led with one ace,
Elise Seufert led with 11 digs and
Mallory Baker led with five blocks.
West Florida was led by Lindsay Homme with 10 kills. Abby Timmer and Sierra Hansen added 16 and 14 assists respectively. Homme led with five aces, Tori Martella led with 10 digs, and Jenny Bellairs led with five blocks.
Up next for Union will be a non-conference home match Tuesday, November 5 versus Trevecca Nazarene at 7:00 p.m. The night will be Cancer Awareness Pink Night.
