Union University senior baseball player John Reed was named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week.
Reed, a 5-foot-8 senior second baseman/outfielder from Windsor, Calif., helped Union to a 2-1 week. He hit .462 (6-13) on the week setting one record, while tying two others. In Union's 19-6 win at Blue Mountain, Reed hit a pair of grand slams in the same game, driving in eight runs. He set the record for grand slams in a game (2), and tied the record for grand slams in a season (2) and RBI in a game (8). For the week, Reed hat six hits, one double, two home runs, eight RBI, and four runs. He was also perfect from the field in 10 chances with five assists and five putouts. In addition to the win over Blue Mountain, Union split with Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia, falling 4-2 and winning 2-0.
