ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Union University softball team swept a doubleheader at Henderson State University Tuesday afternoon, winning 4-2 and 3-2. Union improved to 7-14 on the season, while Henderson State dropped to 9-12.
Game One
Union scored in three of the first four innings to lead 4-0.
Chloe Jones had a sacrifice fly in the first and an RBI single in the third, Kkai Albury added a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Henderson State cut the deficit in half with two in the sixth but Union held off the rally to win 4-2. Union had six hits, led by Jones with two hits and two RBI. Emily Clair Felder (3-3) tossed a complete game, allowing two runs, no earned run, on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Game Two
Henderson State scored first in game two with a pair of runs in the second. Union did not score until a 3-spot in the top of the seventh. And unearned run, a wild pitch that scored a run, and then an RBI single from Jones proved to be the game-winner. Union scattered 10 hits in the game, led by
Courtney Marler with three hits. Jones and Lopez added two hits each. Jones had the team's lone RBI.
Riley Vaughn (1-4) earned the complete game victory, allowing two runs over seven innings with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Up next for Union will be a three game weekend Gulf South Conference Series versus Trevecca Nazarene University. Friday's game is set to start at 4 p.m. with Saturday's doubleheader starting at noon.
