Union baseball falls at UT Martin 6-3 in midweek matchup

MARTIN, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team fell 6-2 at the University of Tennessee at Martin Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play. Union dropped to 10-12 overall, while UT Martin improved to 8-8 on the season. 

After two and a half scoreless innings to start the game. UT Martin scored first with two runs in the third. The Skyhawks scored two more in the fourth to lead 4-0.

Union got on the board with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit in half. Ethan Quinn drove an RBI triple into left center for the first run of the night for the Bulldogs. Union added an unearned run later in the frame. UT Martin answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. 

In the seventh, Union's Kylon Joryner homered to centerfield to get Union within two once again. However, UT Martin added a sixth run of the night in the eighth and held on for the 6-3 win. 

Union and UT Martin both had nine hits in the game. Union's Joyner and Quinn with with two each. Joyner, Quinn had the only two RBI for Union. 

Union used five pitchers in the game with starter Chris Troyer (2-2) taking the loss, tossing three innings with four runs, three earned, on six hits with two walks and no strikeouts. Carter Daniel, Nathan Myers, Brodey Lentz, and Eli Jackson combined to toss the final five innings allowing just two runs. Daniel posted two strikeouts, the only two in the game for UTM hitters. 

Up next for Union is a three game home Gulf South Conference series with Trevecca Nazarene University, Friday and Saturday at Fesmire Field. Friday's game is at 5 p.m. while Saturday's double header is set to start at noon.
