Union baseball rallies in rubber game, 4-3, to take series from McKendree

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team posted a 4-3 come-from-behind win in game three of the weekend series versus McKendree University Saturday. Union won the Friday game 8-4 and then dropped the first game of Saturday's doubleheader 9-6. Union improved to 3-3 on the season, while McKendree now sits at 1-2.

In the series-clinching win, Union trailed 1-0 early, but tied the game at 1-1 on a Grant Ross RBI double. McKendree scored twice in the top of the sixth to lead 3-1. Union responded in the bottom of the frame with three runs. Jake Keyl started the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a 2-RBI double from Elijah Ramsey. A scoreless ninth for Union's Nathan Meyers earned him the win. Tossing 1.2 innings in relief, allowing no runs, no hits, and a strikeout and a walk. Ross led Union with two hits, while Ramsey led with two RBI.

Game one of the doubleheader was back-and-forth in the early going. McKendree took the lead for good in the third with four runs. Union got a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats won 9-6. A three-run homer from Elijah Ramsey in the first was the big blow for Union. Ramsey led with two hits and three RBI in the loss. Takuma Sato took the loss, allowing six runs.

Up next for Union will be a single game Tuesday, February 10, versus Lane College at Fesmire Field.
