JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team posted an 18-8 home win over Lane College Tuesday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union improved to 4-3 on the season, while Lane dropped to 2-2.
Lane scored first with a run in the top of the first. Union responded with six in the bottom of the first. The big blow was a 3-run home run from
Elijah Ramsey.
Cody Tjomsland added a 2-RBI single to the scoring. Union added three in the third and four in the fourth.
Jordan Allen homered to drive in two, and
Jake Keyl added an RBI single. In the fifth, Tjomsland continued to swing a hot bat with a home run to drive in a pair. At this point, Union led 15-1.
Lane showed live with four in the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh. Union was just two outs away from ending the game via the run-rule after the top of the seventh. However, Lane's Purvis hit a 3-run home run to keep his team alive for one more half inning.
With Union leading 15-8 in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldog mounted a rally.
Kylon Joyner drove in two runs on his single through the right side. He then stole second and third, then came home with the winning run on a throwing error by the catcher.
Nathan Myers (2-0) earned the win with four innings of work, allowing one run with six strikeouts, a walk, and three hits.
Lane Evans,
Garrett Telaga,
Alex Johnson, and
Corben Howard all tossed in the game.
Union pounded out 15 hits, led by Tjomsland with four hits and four RBI. Ramsey added three RBI, and
Canyon Pace was the only other Bulldog with multiple hits.
