JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lady Bulldogs are starting the season off strong, clenching a 1-0 victory over Carson-Newman University on Thursday, September 4th at Smith Field Soccer Complex.

Union had a total of 13 shots on goal whilst Carson-Newman had 5. #10 Paige Blackburn and #11 Lucia Revuelto led Union with 3 shots on goal. #3 Rebekah Jackson and #8 Lucia Garcia followed behind with 2 shots on goal. 

Union and Carson-Newman were close in shots taken. Carson-Newman carried with 17 shots. Union had 16 shots, Revuelto carried with 4 attempted shots, and Blackburn was not far behind, adding 3 shots.

There were 11 total fouls for tonight's game, 6 for Union University and 5 for Carson-Newman. 

Union Goalkeeper #0 Dehlia Placie had 2 total saves for the first half, and ended with #1 Anita Lopez Rodriguez with 3 saves in the second half, making the total of saves for Union 5. For both halves, Carson-Newman ended with a total of 12 saves by #1 Berna Kabakci. 

Defender #7 Ella Neely assisted #8 Garcia from a corner kick on the far side of the field.
#8 Garcia came in from the back post and tapped in the only goal of the night, securing the game-winning goal over Carson-Newman University. 
 
Next, Union will return home to host McKendree University on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Admission at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex is complimentary as a courtesy of FirstBank.
